Neal Schmitt Neat piece. Dig the gated drums. I think a bit faster tempo might be in order. But the distortion and heavy gating create a cool vibe I like the spooky sound that comes in towards the back half much, much better than the chimey reverbed sound that's in the first half. That good sound creates a cool vibe. A phat bassy pad underneath everything might tie it all together. Something simple and droney.about 2 years ago

Neal Schmitt This has tons of cool things going on! Just cool textures and manipulations. Nice use of panning to open everything up. The chimes don't sound as loud on my headphones as they did in the studio. Those high, high frequencies are tricky, as they don't need to be very loud before they are discernible and can fatigue the listener pretty quickly.about 2 years ago

Neal Schmitt Drum loop sounds good. A bigger reverb and even some delay on the choir voices would widen things and help them blend. I like the glassy sound underneath those voices too. That's sitting in a good spot. I like where you are going with this. Probably needs some quanitization to tighten everything upabout 2 years ago

Interview with proprietor Lou Lenart

Neal Schmitt 1924! wow - That's some longevity. How interesting that he looked back and called it a "private clubhouse" It's amazing how something starts as a whim and evolves into something bigger and "real." 5 years on active duty. Wow! - it's amazing that he was able to keep the business open. I'm sure most of his staff was working hard but you know others were taking advantage of his absence. Lou's voice could probably a little louder. it would have been cool to have a part where you showcased some of the famous music acts that have played the Union.about 2 years ago

Lilloco Cool strings, lots of info. I did not relize fox went that deep. Cool podcast Robin!over 2 years ago
kelpwilliams A lot of information in there. Digging the music. Only thing is that i think the music could be brought down a little bit so it is easier to focus on your voice. It sometimes gets lost in the music.over 2 years ago
jeff.welch Definitely learned a lot of cool information about Fox. Your music bed fit very well and didn't pull away from the information, but like others said sometimes your vocals could have been a little louder. The music fading out and then back in at the beginning felt a little odd to me.over 2 years ago
Walter Really Great podcasts Robin! Very informative, really loved the strings. I would also agree with ms williams about the music being too loud at times, but other than that I loved it, good jobover 2 years ago

Neal Schmitt Robin* Instrumentally, this track is good. Keyboards, string plucks, blippy keyboards – all poke through at respectable volumes. The song build nicely - guitar, then the organs and plucky sound. The dynamics are wonderful - loud parts are loud and when the song is supposed to punch in - it does! However, the vocals at times are too loud, other times too quiet – use automation to keep the vocals at a consistent level above the music. Listen to any pro song and you’ll notice the relationship of the vocals is usually consistent. Try to replicate that. The background vocals at the end are real quiet. Cool use of effects to showcase certain parts of the song. The drums seem dry compared to the wetter vocals. purposeful?over 2 years ago

NickBoFoSho If you were going for muddy, you nailed it. But for clarity sake, the drums sound really quiet and lost in the mix. They sounded awesome in the beginning, so maybe you just need to turn them up a little bit. The guitar tone is sweet when it's screaming, it cuts through the mix like warm butter. If all the instruments could do that it would be easier to discern what was going on. this song has a great energy, I dig.over 2 years ago

KPdragon Very catchy panning at the end! I love it! The delay might of gone by to fast for me, but I think it sounds like a song that they would play on the radio a bunch. Very good compression nothing sounds very dirty at all. Very professional. I like it!over 2 years ago

BrotherWilliam Guitar track(s) could stand to be trimmed at the song's opening and the kick seems a little lost, but I really like how the vocals pan out to the sides real quick and then back.over 2 years ago
kelpwilliams overall mix is pretty good, i like how everything blends in with each other well but is still separate. couple things i noticed: bass gets lost a couple times in the mix, along with the kick. at the start the voxs seem a little funny to me, but the more you listen the better they sound. overall i really like how you blended the guitars, it sounds killer.over 2 years ago
Neal Schmitt Robin This mix has a lot of muscle and a lot of distortion– which means there’s a lot of compression. Almost across the board, the vocals need to be just above the music. In this mix, the music overwhelms the lead vox on numerous occasions. The advantage of a loud, big vocal is that it tends to make the entire mix louder and bigger. The drums are really rocking. The cymbals get a bit splashy in some e parts – turning down the overheads would probably fix that. The kick drum is a little tubby and undefined. Some EQ for clarity would tighten that kick up. The snare sounds a bit distorted. Maybe it’s clipping somewhere – or maybe you’ve got a comp. cranked down on it. (The opening tom fill sounds distorted too) The guitars are nice and thick. And in a good space (not too loud/quiet) The clean guitar in the 2nd verse might be too loud. I like the part but the 2nd verse is a specific part where the lead vox gets drowned out. The noisy little guitar solo before the last chorus seems to be hidden. That little part can pop out. The background vox are a in a good spot. If there’s reverb, it’s very subtle. The back vox volume is spot on!over 2 years ago

kelpwilliams Acoustic guitar and vocals have a good blend. I like how the drums are pushed back. The electric guitar panned left is super killer.over 2 years ago
Neal Schmitt Robin The compression on the acoustic sounds good but it's drawing up the super low end, which is making my sounds system hum like crazy. A high pass filter will solve that issue. The acoustic is important but it's really overpowering the rest of the music - even the lead vocal. In the second chours, the acoustic is the loudest part.. The volume of the vox and the acoustic are good in the verse. Need more drums. I can hear some snare back there but the drums are really overpowered. And the bass guitar is pushed back there too. I like that the electric is a bit louder and makes a special appearance. This mix is good in the quieter parts (acoustic, vox) but I want it to rock a bit more in the louder sections. Without the loud drums pushing the rhythm section forward, the mix can't rock (the way I want it too, at least) so maybe, pull the low end hum from the acoustic and back it down a bit, I wonder what this mix might sound like? 12/15over 2 years ago

TheLiberator INHO......NICE REVERB, but i think that the strings should either be turned down in the mix, or a little reverb to make them sound like they are in the room with the all the other tracks, i encourage you to listen again, but over all it is a very good mix and i really really like the vocals......over 2 years ago
Neal Schmitt Robin Intro sounds really promising - rhythm sections sounds tight and in a really good space. Whoa, that's a lot reverb. Too much - nothing else is that saturated, which makes her voice special. Think back to the Beck song, the lead vox was dry and the strings were saturated in reverb. That might have been a better approach to this song. Or simply, turn down the amount of lead vox sent to the reverb. (it kind of sounds cool in the verse though!) the tambourine is off in the choruses. The ending's interesting and close. The background vox sound right on but the kick is off. I don't mind ending where you did, that's your prerogative. the strings overall are too loud - they're very overbearing in my sound system. but I appreciate your adventurous attempt. 12/15over 2 years ago
