Neal Schmitt This piece seems a bit out of sync with it self. Lots of stuff going on - some good, some ehh. Love the footstep sound effect - that sounds really cool within the song and with Terence's vox line. But the drum loops seem a bit ha hazard, like you weren't sure which one to settle on. And the edit at :25 is not so much in time. Where's the bass? Without it, the songs seems incomplete.about 3 years ago
Walter Yeah the out of sync is just my horrible synth playing in reason, and the loop is out of garage band I used Identify beat, i could never figure out why it never synced up correctly, but glad you liked the sound FXs haha its nice when they're actually appropriate in a song eh?about 3 years ago

Neal Schmitt For DI guitar, that clean guitar sounds very cool. nice tasty reverb on the guitar as well. When the two solos are conflicting…I'm not so much a fan of that (around :52) but otherwise very nice. The bass is nice and even. Doesn't sound overcompressed at all - sits right where it should Percussion adds a nice touch.about 3 years ago

This is an interview I did with Bill from L'Heureux Properties, Please give me some feedback on the podcast, your opinion is important!
terencerobertson Good job Walter, I was entertained the entire time. Just watch out for volume leves, words getting cut off or starting in the middle of a sentence that you recorded from the interviewee and the time constraints.about 3 years ago
Neal Schmitt There's some great music choices - especially pfunk and talking heads. The narration and interview recording were both exceptionally clear. I would have liked a bit more story and less "i asked him about" type interview. This could have also tightened up the piece. From a listener standpoint, I'm interested in whether the Nelsonville division makes money? Doesn't sound like they do. How long can they keep that up? When do you call it quits? That's what I want to know. Nick's tag at the end is funny. But you said he was in the interview. I'm not sure I get it.about 3 years ago

kylebeck Hey man this sounds really good. I like the distortion on the bass nice touch and and when the bass come in with the harmonics pretty cool man. I also like the reverse drums very tasteful. The man thing i noticed was the Echo "Phone" gets lost in the mix other than that great job man.over 3 years ago

Just alittle mix i did enjoy and give honest feedback(;
kylebeck the Drums sonud awesome but i think that at times the delay on the snare is a little much. The kick is sweet and i like how the kick and bass compliment each other. the Vocals sound a little dry and maybe a little to overpowering but i like where everything is sitting in the bridge. Great Mix man.over 3 years ago
jeff.welch Not too bad man, everything sits pretty well. Drums were very upfront and compressed since the parallel compression busses were fed into each other and not separate, but the result isn't too bad. The delay on the snare was a bit much at times and it probably would have been a good idea to automate the delay or make a separate track to prevent it from being on the whole time. Bass sits very well and doesn't jump out. The EQ curve is pretty nice and it doesn't feel like its competing with the kick. Guitars aren't bad, the hard panning in the beginning was a tad daring but did give everything its own place. Solos are also apparent but things do get a little lost at the end. The Piano sits low until its little solo before the end which isn't bad since its a tad annoying, but reverb or EQ could have helped it a bit. The vocal mix is great throughout the first half but some parts start to get a little lost toward the end with everything going on. EQ could have helped brighten them up a bit. Main parts are always apparent though. Overall not bad!over 3 years ago
Neal Schmitt Walter There’s some dead air at the top (about five seconds – a simple fix when you bounce just select on one track the complete area you want bounced.) The song sounds really great in the beginning. The drums kick in nicely. The kick and snare and cymbals are nice and present. The bass guitar is supporting the rhythm section and the vox are sitting just on top of the music (the high harmomy is tool loud imho). The piano melody is clear. There also seems to be some good panning going on. Very cool. That’s through the second chorus – during the quiet part, the drums get much quieter, the solos are tool tucked into the music and the bass seems really loud. The snare delay is cool is most of the song but there’s some areas where cutting it out/down would have been judicious. Where’s the keyboard and ebow parts? The piano and vocals need some tweaking via effects – a bit of reverb or delay. Especially the piano, it just sounds too plain (and like a keyboard) The reversed piano part has some leakage from the drums that’s unpleasant. Cut that bad stuff out. Nice job juggling the voices – you’ve got the high harmony right where it should be. The end gets insane, doesn’t it? That’s a lot of sound to juggle. In the album version, it fades out. For the end, automation is your friend – that wil help you pick which sounds are front and and which should go back. The idea is to keep relative volumes – the kick and bass relationship from the front of the song should be carried throughout the song.over 3 years ago

BrotherWilliam I like the verb on the vocals, sounds kinda "coffee house-ish". Vocals may be a bit loud. Overall pretty good.over 3 years ago
jeff.welch Not bad man, from looking at the session though some things weren't grabbed enough by the compressors, but everything sounds good. Have to agree about the reverb, it added a really nice depth, same with your snare sound. Just watch those compressors!over 3 years ago
Neal Schmitt Walter Intro sounds nice, HP filter on the acoustic, a nice subtle reverb onthe vox. What happened to the bass guitar and kick drum. They're gone! Kick sounds very plastic and I can only hear the bass in a few spots. More comression on the bass - stat! We need the low really solid and consistent. The vocals sit in a good spot in th mix - above the music but not too far. During the loud parts though the acoustic seems lost Remember, as the mix engineer, just cos it was recorded doesn't mean you need to use it - (That's it vox at the end) There's a few words that you might have wanted to edit - where the endings of the words don't match up. Be aggressive with the compression! dig in with that threshold.over 3 years ago

kylebeck I agree seems like to much reverb on the snare and the hi hat tracks. I also think that the guitar tracks might be a little loud.over 3 years ago
jeff.welch would have to agree also. Seems like some of the guitar tracks slam out while everything else is sitting nicely. I would definitely watch the reverb. It creates a cool effect but might be pushing the drums back a little too much. Vocals sound great!over 3 years ago
Reiko11 yea i agree way to much reverb. it pushed the vocals to the back of the song. reduce the reverb an you got a good mixover 3 years ago
Neal Schmitt Walter I like the reverb on the voice but the drum reverb decay is waaaaaay too long. Remember, reverb time is related to tempo and the guideline is that the reverb tail should end preferably before the next hit. Where did yo listen to this mix? In my car, there are some real inconsistencies of volume. The right side chorus guitar and little two note guitar fill is real loud, when the bass drops, kick drum a& snare are very quiet. You nailed the ending edit! nice job. The last chorus needs to be cleaned up a bit as some sounds get cut off, but you have the timing spot on. ooh, neat way to end with the drums fading out. That's pretty original. i approve! The strings could use some of that lush reverb. There's some real strength hear and a very attempt to wrangle a lot of tracks. nicely done.over 3 years ago
