His duped investors were made to believe in high returns not achieved by any other manager, and even later, with Madoff in jail, they still don’t understand that he didn’t care about them. More than one has said, “I hope he lives a long time in jail so he can realize just what he’s done.” Madoff reportedly has settled down to actually enjoying jail, which is like a country club for him, and he has traded upscale groupies for criminal ones. About his investors, he said, “Fu*k my victims.” The moral of this story? Seeking out truth takes effort, and most people don’t take the time.
