    music_lover Thanks for your comment. Of course I agree with your comments. As far as I know the jaipur Gharana Gayaki is on a death bed. Other than Mansurji's son Rajshekhar who in India sings jaipur gayaki?

    abhinay Eminent musicologist and music writer Deepak Raja makes the observation that the jaipur gharana today consists almost entirely of female vocalists.It is a pity that there is no great representative of this great gharana alive today except Kishori Amonkar. But legends like Kesarbai, Mogubai, Mansurji and Kishori don't come about that easily. We are lucky to atleast to listen to some of their great recordings. It gives me goosebumps when i imagine what a sublime experience it would have been listening to these artists live. The sheer ecstasy experienced by the audience in Mansurji's performances is perhaps the greatest tribute a singer can ever hope to achieve.

    Shirish Dear Sir, May I ask this is from which of his Geet concerts? It is my lasting regret that I missed his Geet Hemant, Geet Basant, and Ritu Raj programs when he was alive.. I hope the KG foundation publishes these gems. Thanks for this upload. -Shirish

I also hope that KG foundation publishes every note that Kumar sang. I believe that we may not have another creative genius like Kumar for a long time to come. He and his music is a national treasure and must be not only preserved but made available to ALL. Thanks for your feedback. Datta G.

    Shirish I totally agree.. Kumarji was indeed the greatest musician-creator-thinker of our time. His life was like a sustained explosion of creation, we are all privileged to have been witness to it. His Lagan Gandharis a powerful new Raga, it never fails to affect. Sanjari, Beehad Bhairav, Bhavmat Bhairav, Malavati, Saheli Todi, have antecedent Ragas but still have distinct own personalities and can be developed for hours, like any traditional Raga. His old Bageshree is a perfectly sculpted gem, with a “jaagaa” every fifteen seconds.. The part from 9:00 to 9:55 always wells up my eyes. Most of the other records he cut are as good. His compositions are exquisitely formed - Aavo Rang Phag in Bhimpalasi or the Durga on your site- Anand Jharayo Ri, or Maruji Bhulo Na in his Sohni Bhatiyar – the nazakat is outstanding.. (Perhaps it is an odd comparison, but I find the same harmony of form in many of S.D. Burman’s songs.) Your site is a treasure trove, thanks for uploading so many rare recordings.

And I guess it will be many years before we see such a Genius in India in the field of ICM. I was fortunate to have met him in person and had a good chat about his Musical thinking. It is nice of you to share your thoughts about his Music and this website. I just want to share whatever I have collected over the years with fellow Music Lovers like you.     Arun M Hi, This isn't Raga Yaman (the repeated Pa-Ni-Sa jump, the Pa-taar saptak Re meend, and the shuddh Ma coupling mean it can't be). I'm not sure what it is: It seems likely to be Raga Bihag or a close variant, or a mix of Bihag and Yaman. It is misnamed on Youtube as well...
