A quick rap for Hocking's Songwriting class about Nelsonville. The beat was from an old project for another class that I quickly changed up in Logic. Features Terence Robertson on the mic.

The Paraplegic Millipedes - Black and Blue

My initial mix of Black and Blue off of our EP. Still trying to get the bass how I'd like it and the vocals pop out a bit more than they should from the limiter I used to pump things up. Much better than how it was however! Comments?

Walter I really liked the mix everything was nice and balanced. You did a great Job on the vocals and the guitars, drums and bass sit very well with each other. Couldn't really find anything bad within the mix itself good job man.over 3 years ago
NickBoFoSho Alright dude first off this a professional mix. the drums are very distinguishable. All the toms can be heard. awesome. The bass fits really well in the mix. Your Eq to fit worked superb. The bass works with the drums very effectively. The Reverb on the toms make them stand out beautifully. As well with the vocals. There are some sounds coming from the back up vocals that i didn't even know where there. Nice work. The guitars are lame in this song so I like how you have them sitting lower in the mix. OVer all it was sooo much better than my work so I am not justified to say anything bad about it nor can I find anything wrong with it.over 3 years ago
Neal Schmitt Great mix. There’s a lot going on and you’ve got a pretty good handle on it all The guitars are a bit edgy – a bit of smoothing (ie. Cutting) of the hi-mids would not make them so buzz saw sound, When there’s lots of vocal, the vocals are a good level. When it just the single lead, the vox tends to get swallowed by the music. The bass guitar sounds great. It’s got a nice round bitey edge to help it cut through. I like the reverb on the snare (either fake or from the room mics, it doesn’t matter) IT really makes it sound like he’s wailing on the snare. The kick is tucked in a bit and I can’t hear the hi-tom, which he hits a lot in the song. The cymbals sound great – not too bright! I like the loud background vox. It makes the song sound big.over 3 years ago

A mix of our first project utilizing only volume adjustment, fades, and D-Verb reverb.
kylebeck Great use of reverb on the rhythm guitars, rhodes and vox. I like the end how the everything drops out for the first chorus and then comes back in. Great mix all in all i thought the strings might have been a little loud in the choruses.over 3 years ago
Walter Great mix, loved the balance in the background vocals really nice, also loved it when you dropped out the drums and brought it right back home with the bass. I had no problems with this mix it was perfect(:over 3 years ago
Neal Schmitt Jeff Very smooth! I think the kick/snare/bass relationship is perfect - totally matches the Sade song. The reverb is very tasteful The tambourine editing is great. I wouldn't mind it panned to one side, instead of the middle - something to add width interest and maybe down in volume just a touch. The vocal is hovering right at the point where it might get lost in the music. It's just above that level but it's teetering. I like the volume of the bass scratches. That's a nice touch. OOOOO! - nice drop out! Nice production touch. Very creative. You nailed the editing at the end too! The very end is interesting - kind of unfinished. If the guitar (and maybe one other sound) had done on just a bit longer, that might have been cool . Just great - without compression, this is about as close to a record as it could sound. 15/15over 3 years ago
